Every October is National Physical Therapy month.  During the month, individuals are encouraged to learn about the benefits of regular physical activity and how physical therapists can help people improve their health and quality of life through movement.

Research shows that 80% of adults and adolescents do not get enough physical activity.  What is your clinic doing to promote your services to the community to help address this staggering number?

The American Physical Therapy Association has created both a National PT Month toolkit as well as a “Choose PT” toolkit that contains handouts, graphics, postcards and signs that can be used to promote the profession and how physical therapists can help.  This year marks the 30th Anniversary of National PT Month.  Here are some ways that APTA is helping you promote your services:

Show off your selfie (and be entered to win a $100 gift card): The September issue of APTA Magazine includes a ChoosePT poster. Take a picture with the poster and share it on your social media channels using #ChoosePT; members who share photos will be entered to win a $100 gift card for the APTA Store.

Be found: update or create your “Find a PT” Profile: Since the launch of APTA’s ChoosePT public service announcements, the TV and radio spots have aired more than 15,500 times and made more than 63 million impressions. The PSAs are helping drive traffic to ChoosePT.com, which receives millions of visits, and many of those visitors are using the APTA “Find a PT” Directory (more than 500,000 so far in 2022), which makes it easy to search for a PT and filter results by location, practice focus, or specialization. Take advantage of this member benefit for physical therapists and update (or create) your “Find a PT” Profile today.

October 8th is Global PT Day-of-Service (PTDOS).  PTDOS is about creating positive change on the local level for global effect.  Since 2015, PT Day of Service has brought together over 23,000 volunteers from all 50 US states and nearly 85 countries around the world.  You can create a new project or join an existing project to participate: https://ptdayofservice.com/.

Don’t forget to use the hashtags #PTmonth and #ChoosePT on your social media during the month of October and beyond!
